Ms. Ingram Southwest Elementary School
High Point, NC Grades PreK-2

I teach all subjects to a heterogeneous class of 24 kindergarteners class at a K-5 elementary school.

Kindergartners need many hands-on, concrete activities to learn necessary skills. One important math skill is number sense. Kindergarteners must learn their numbers and more importantly, what these numbers mean. They need many opportunities to touch and count objects and match sets of items with the correct numeral.

I would like to give my students the opportunity to practice counting, matching sets to numerals, and recognizing numerals using engaging manipulatives. I would like a set of counting games. The students will be able to count large strawberries into baskets, jewels into treasure chests, cookies onto plates, and peanuts into bags. I would like a Counting Cookie Smart Snack game. Students count the colored chips on cookies, check the back to see if they are correct, and then place the cookies in the cookie jar. Finally, I would like a Fishing For Numbers game. Students use magnetic fishing rods to catch numbered fish to match to their game mats.

These games will allow my students the opportunity to practice numbers and number sense by using fun maipulatives and playing games. I appreciate any support you can give towards helping me with this goal.
