More books! More books! I hear it so much from my students but with a small and very limited budget there is only so much I can do to satisfy their need for more books. I'm the media specialist at a small, rural K-8 school in Alabama. Approximately 59% of our students participate in the free and reduced lunch program. Our community, like so many others, faces many economic challenges. For instance, seven months ago our community was devastated by a tornado that damaged or destroyed many homes.

For many of our students, the only access they have to books is through the school library. Our collection is small and well-read and that's a problem. Our budget is not enough to provide all of the books that we need to satisfy the increasing demand for more books. Our students love to read but without enough books to hold their interest then they may lose some of their enthusiasm for reading. I'm not about to let that happen!

With this grant I can provide our students with new and interesting books that will help keep them interested in reading for years to come! The books will be added to the collection and enjoyed by not just one but all of our present and future readers!
