Global Learning And Literacy With Kids To Kids International
My students need 17 book-making materials such as crayons, markers, drawing paper, a stapler and a hole-punch to send books to children in a refugee camp in Cambodia through Kids for Kids International.
I am a teacher of English as a Second Language (ESL) in New York and work with English Language Learners in grades 3-5 who hail from countries all around the world.
We are a school community with many needs ourselves, but my students are highly motivated by service learning, adopting a global perspective and social justice education. They are deeply interested in projects that serve a greater good.
We have recently become interested in working with Kids to Kids International, an organization committed to sending student created picture books and educational supplies to children around the world. We are hoping to participate in a hand made picture book exchange with students in need around the world.
We will work hard to create picture books for children in another country, and pack them up complete with all the supplies needed for them to make books for our classroom to enjoy in return.
Imagine brightening the day of a child in a refugee camp when he receives a handmade book from straight from a child's heart across the world.
Help to fulfill some of the educational needs of a child, displaced by natural disaster or civil unrest, with crayons, pencils, erasers, and paper.
Broaden the horizons of children both domestically and abroad through an international exchange of hand made books. Provide everyone involved with a meaningful literacy experience that will not only open their minds, but expand their hearts.
In order to participate we need supplies for bookmaking (paper, pencils, crayons, markers, etc.) and supplies for the teacher to help to publish the books and make the childrens' ideas come to life (Stapler & staples, book tape, paper fasteners, etc.).
Your help will ensure that students around the world participate in a meaningful educational experience that will impact their lives. Help to expand the minds and hearts of children in order to embrace our global world.
