Reaching Into The Rainforest

My students need 20 copies of "Afternoon on the Amazon" from the Magic Tree House series, along with 10 copies of the Rain Forests non-fiction companion book.

We are reaching into the rain forests to discover the importance of these disappearing wonders. I teach 3rd grade language arts at an Animal Science school in an inner city community.

Each grade level at my school is assigned a biome and in 3rd grade we study the rain forest. I am constantly looking for new ways to enhance my curriculum and infuse it with their biome. Instead of using the reading books provided to us by the district to teach comprehension strategies I chose to teach outside the box with actual meaningful literature. Also, I look for something that I know will keep them engaged as animal lovers.

These Magic Tree House Books focused on the rain forest in fiction and non-fiction will teach my children all they need to know about their biome while they are becoming better readers and writers. They will be able to identify certain animals and plants within the fiction and do the research in the non-fiction companion to learn more about it. They are beginning to be inspired to save the rain forests by changing little things in their lifestyles everyday and I want them to continue to learn how to be a responsible citizen in our world by taking care of it. To do this they need to see the importance of all the natural resources and animals in the rain forest and their purpose. These books provide entertainment while teaching the need to protect this land that provides so much for our world.

Help inspire young minds who will become our future leaders to protect the valuable and irreplaceable lands of the few rain forests we have left around the world. Knowledge is power, if they know they can help. Help me help my students become responsible citizens and make a difference in our world a little change at a time. There is medicine and cures still waiting to be discovered in our rain forest, maybe the scientist who discovers a cure for a disease is sitting in my classroom daily.
