My students need an LCD projector for a majority of my lessons.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. T.'s classroom raised $1,085

Instructional differentiation is a noble goal, and I strive to reach every learning style every day. I teach four biology classes of thirty ninth graders each, and four biology labs per week. It's a big, high need school in one of the highest-need neighborhoods in the city. It's a crowded house, which sometimes necessitates teaching the whole group at once. An effective and exciting lesson can literally make or break a student's success in the class, in high school, and ultimately in life.
Science is nearly impossible to teach using purely descriptions, abstractions, metaphors and handouts. Visualization is a fundamental part of understanding, and this is especially true in a science that relies so heavily on diagrams, animations, and photographs (micro and macro). I am asking for what is generally a pretty basic tool for a science teacher.
Quite simply, a projector for my school's science department would drastically improve the situation--not just for me, but for others who have bought projectors with their own money in the past and have literally used them to death. My school simply cannot afford to supply us with a projector. I have asked everyone. Twice.
Teaching an up-to-date biology class without the use of up-to-date technology is an oxymoron. And while facilitating understanding without the use of slide shows and videos was a challenge I was willing to face when I took this job, I feel that it takes an unnecessary chance on the education of these kids. I would rather not risk it.
