I am a 4th grade Reading and Social Studies teacher at a K-5 school in rural Eastern North Carolina. My school recently achieved our state's ABC accountability goals for the first time in the school's history. We were able to utilize a variety of strategies, such as the use of technology to achieve our goals.

My students enjoy the use of technology in the classroom such as the free videos to BrainPOP as an introduction or as a review to the objectives taught in class. Unfortunately, our school can not afford a site license. Since my students enjoy the characters "Tim" and "Moby" so much, I thought I would request funding for the site.

BrainPOP allows the students to view a video clip on a variety of subjects such as reading, grammar, science, social studies, and math. The characters "Tim and Moby" present the topics in a humorous way that keeps the students engaged. At the end of the clip, there is a 10 question interactive quiz. At the end of the quiz, the students are given their results on how well they answered the questions.

I am convinced that whatever we can do as educators to keep the students engaged, we should try. My students would thoroughly enjoy the opportunity to have BrainPOP as a resource to enhance and improve the skills and objectives they are learning in the classroom.
