Help our boys learn to read! Research shows that boys in our country are struggling more in school these days. I am a special education teacher and currently all of my kindergarten students are boys.

Teachers have a challenge these days trying to make activities fun and interesting for all students but especially for boys. Most boys are more interested in non-fiction literature and non-fiction books are hard to find on a kindergarten level or lower.

With the digital camera, photo paper and ink, my kindergarten boys can create books about their own experiences in school. They can use their own words to tell stories about what they do everyday in school and read these books back in order to orient themselves to literature as well as daily schedules. Making a connection between spoken word and text is a huge step in becoming literate and this is a great way to do it!

Your choice to support this project will mean that at least 6 boys in my special education class will get the opportunity to participate in a literature experience that is actually FUN and MEANINGFUL! Help me inspire them to be life long readers!
