My students need 20 copies of 4 book titles, including "Worst Enemies/Best Friends" and "The Diary of a Young Girl: Anne Frank", along with 48 Rainbow Bright journals.

I am a middle school librarian (grades 6-8) in a school with a high population of students receiving free and reduced lunch. Since money is an issue for many of our families and resources are very limited, I am grateful to the donors who provided starter books for the Global Girlz Book Club (GLO Girls. The z is deliberate). Last year we explored issues of self esteem through examination of characters in books. The club was successful and generated a lot of interest from the participants as well as younger girls wishing to participate. I do expect the club to grow this year and beyond. The purpose of the Global Girlz book club is: •To increase the awareness about issues concerning girls locally and across the globe through reading books and service to others •To provide 7th and 8th grade girls with the opportunity to discuss and explore issues in a fun and non threatening environment •To foster a love of reading by introducing girls to popular literature geared toward their interests. •To promote literacy We are in great need of funding. More resources are needed to purchase books and materials. Multiple copies of books are needed in order for the girls to keep the books. These books help the students build their own personal libraries. Unfortunately many of our students cannot afford to pay for books. The GLO Girlz book club will have an additional focus in Phase 2. It will focus on journal writing and strive to promote literacy in all forms, including literacy and the arts. Your assistance will enable this club to continue. We are grateful for any assistance that will be provided.
