Getting To Know My World

My students need classroom subscriptions to the Weekly Readers Read and Current Event to participate in their current event activities in class.

This project expired on February 5, 2009.

My classes are comprised of 7th and 8th grade at-risk students, who take me for Language Arts, Social Studies, and Study Skills.

My classes were created to meet the needs of our growing at-risk population that struggle academically and behaviorally. They will be challenged throughout the school year. They will be introduced to real world experiences. The students will also be exposed to colleges.

Because of the low socioeconomic status of my students, they barely can afford school supplies, let alone extras like newspapers and news magazines for current event assignments. The Weekly Reader was chosen as a resource the students can use to complete current events for their Social Studies and Language Arts classes. In order to have a successful project each student needs the subscriptions to the magazine in order to have the opportunity for independent reading.

Your donation will ensure that my students will be able to experience current events personally through exploration of current events written at grade appropriate levels. Your donation will also enable students the opportunity to participate in class discussions on these current events.
