Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I have just moved to another school located in a high poverty community. I am teaching first grade.

My classroom does not have a computer and will not be provided with one. However, the school is equipped with Internet access. As a teacher for twelve years, I know how much a computer can enhance instruction.

It would be wonderful for my twenty first graders to be able to utilize the internet to research and be introduced to technology. I would also use the word processing software for students to write and publish their stories, poems and reports that they will write thorough out the school year.

A computer in the classroom would make a tremendous impact in my students' education and it will make it possible for them to experience the internet and the numerous teachable moments it would provide. Students can research animal facts, listen to actual animal sounds, hear speeches, and even view artwork. Having the students be able to type their stories on a class computer would be a great motivational tool to inspire my students to write!
