Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

If you can't beat 'em - join 'em! Kids are too frequently entranced with televisions, and we hope to capitalize on that reality. With a flat-screen TV projecting the various accomplishments and performances of our 240 students, we believe that students will be further motivated to achieve. Each week a new broadcast will celebrate and recognize students for doing the right thing: in class, in the hallways, on trips, in the lunchroom or anywhere else we catch them on film! This broadcast will make students feel proud and will encourage others to behave similarly. Our hallways are too narrow and often too crowded to allow for a television stand and the bulk of an old-school television, so a flat-screen would work perfectly and it would be less likely to be accidentally bumped or unplugged. Also, we plan to incorporate the television into a larger display, and so the flat-screen would be ideal for this plan. The screen would be placed in a central location in our school so every student, staff member, parent and visitor can celebrate the achievements of our students. Finally, this television will serve as a mirror to the Wall of Honor that currently adorns the hallway; The Wall of Honor is full of pennants that demonstrate where our students attend college and, on the other side, we hope to have a television that quickly represents students who are performing the behaviors and tasks it will take to get to college and succeed. Not only will students be featured on the weekly broadcast, they will also assist in recording, editing and producing the broadcast. This will allow students who are tech-savvy and who might desire careers in the visual arts fields an opportunity to try their hand at a real production with an authentic audience of their peers. It also provides them an opportunity to work creatively, with technology and with others in a timely fashion. Not only will students practice these skills, they will contribute to their school community in a meaningful, visible way. This simple technological tool will help our school truly celebrate and recognize the achievements of our students. We appreciate your time and consideration of this proposal.
