Where Are You From?

My students need a way to build more of a sense of community in our school. As a newer school in a newer neighborhood, we need to build our sense of community while celebrating diversity.

My Students

Our students are extremely enthusiastic and engaged in the community. Many participate in spend a significant amount of time giving to their school community, their own community, or working jobs to help their families. They are truly a special group of students that work amazingly in mainstreamed classrooms with their peers.

They are motivated and would benefit from more student-centered activities.

I would also like to have them collaborate more on activities. Many students struggle to obtain the proper technology to engage in classroom activities. These would help supplement those students.

My Project

Students and teachers in our school will be able to scratch off the areas that they originally hail from in our hallway. We are an extremely transient area. Students and teachers could throughout the year fill in this map until it is completely colorful.

In a time where hostilities are arising from differences, we would like to celebrate our diversity.

I feel this may give students a better sense of community and help them learn more about their classmates. It may also give us a chance to learn more about our students' experiences so that they can help educate us and peers about other areas of the world.
