Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach four classes of United States Government, one class of Ethics, and one class of Model United Nations. The government and ethics classes are grade 12 and Model U.N. is grade 11. A majority of the students are low-income and virtually all of them are minorities; Hispanics mostly originating from Mexico, Cuba, Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, and Blacks from the U.S. and also Nigeria and few elsewhere from African countries.

How can my students who overwhelmingly perform below national standards climb in academic ability? These students need a fair chance to compete in college, the business world, or serving their country with a military career or other government career.

As a teacher I must utilize technology to assist in delivering lessons. My students need to get up to speed in academic capability. We need an LCD projector. An LCD projector will enable an impact for carrying out accelerated learning. Having a LCD projector will assist in readying my students for college rigor. There is a myraid of assignments I will implement that are higher level provided I have the ability to introduce and explain the concepts with this visual aid. Numerous visuals projected on the LCD will allow those explanations. Verbalization would just not be adequate for grasping of higher level concepts. Research confirms the significant importance of visuals impacting learning.

An LCD projector will be used regularly in all my classes. The impact on student numbers would be about 320 a year times perhaps 7 years for the life of the projector. That is 2,240 students whose learning is elevated from this donation. It seems social sciences are the last to receive donations from corporations who tend to focus on science and math. School districts also single out a great share of funds for science, math, and English. This is why all those other subjects in the high school I am in have LCD projectors; yet social studies teachers have no way of getting any supplies amounting to a hundred or so dollars. Please assist us by making it possible for our students to connect to real world events and citizenship issues through use of the LCD projector. They will be much stronger academically.
