This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

Hello, I teach physical education at an elementary school in D.C. I teach grade levels pre-k through fifth. The school is located in an urban area that tends to deprive students of having a well rounded personality, and life. Some of the students go most of their days without the proper care and attention that a community can provide. Therefore, many students look for the love, care, and education which they receive once entering the doors of the school building.

Now, unfortunately we all face challenges at one time or another. It just so happens that my current challenge is occurring in the classroom. “What’s going on?” you might ask. It’s simple! Let me began to explain. This school has been without a Physical Education program for the last four years. Yes, that’s right! There has been no physical activity taking place in the class room environment. That was to my surprise. However, there are many other D.C schools in the same situation. I consider myself to be a proactive teacher. Upon my arrival to start my new position as the P.E. teacher, I thought it would be a great idea to take an inventory count of P.E. equipment that was in use when they had a physical education program four years ago. I discovered that the storage closet was completely empty. There is no P.E. equipment at the school. Unacceptable! How am I supposed to create a fun, fitness and learning environment with no materials and equipment? It was my intentions to start the school year out with a physical fitness lesson to assess the students’ health and physical performance level.

In order to teach a fitness unit, I will need resources such as cones, jump ropes,hula hoops, and bean bags to start.

I am writing this project because I need someone to assist me in being able to teach a physical fitness unit. If you are interested in funding this project your kindness and generosity will greatly be appreciated. You will not only be helping me overcome a challenge, but you will be helping the students of this elementary school achieve a healthy, active lifestyle and academic success. Thank you in advance.
