I teach second grade bilingual in an economically disadvantage school in Texas. Our school is a Title I School with close to 900 students. We have one of the largest Spanish speaking populations in our District!
My students must learn English & Spanish! I was once in the same situation struggling to learn English as a second language many years ago. Our classroom and school library has many English books which the students love, but we are lacking when it comes to Spanish literature. They love their language and as bilingual students they want to keep learning it. It is my job to make sure my students have balanced literature within the classroom.
My students love Dr. Seuss books in English. They read these books over and over! Why not have them in Spanish also? This will be a great way to enjoy our Reading Workshops on our Spanish day instruction!
With a little help it really could be "that easy"! I know the day will come when my students walk into their classroom and find a Dr. Seuss book in Spanish!
