Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My classroom is filled with 30 bright and energetic kindergarten students. These students vary greatly in abilities, interests, culture, and needs. Yet they are all inner-city students who are excited to participate in a fine arts education.

Currently students who go to the pretend center are stuck using old, worn out, and even some broken items. I had to piece together the pretend center from items left over from the previous teacher and random odds and ends that I have been fortunate enough to find at the dollar store. Although students love to interact and explore various roles in the pretend center...they are often missing items and do not have a comfortable place to sit.

My students need various items for the pretend center. These include food items that cover the different food groups, appliances, dishes, pots and pans, and utensils. Also, it is important for the center to be a cozy place where they can relax and comfortably participate. The two child sized chairs will give the children an opportunity to feel as though the dramatic play center actually belongs to them and is suitable to their needs.

Your generous help will make it possible for my students to spend endless hours at their favorite center with props and items that are suited for their needs and promote their development. They will be able to learn about food and nutrition, develop oral language, and practice conversational skills...all in a day's play!
