I teach art at a public elementary school in New York. Thank you for considering this proposal.

Last year, I showed slides to my students of Egyptian art and they loved it. We had amazing conversations about Egyptian culture and I discovered that many students brought considerable knowledge to the discussion. I am requesting supplies to complete a sculpture unit referencing Egyptian culture. Students will make clay heads in part I and necklaces in part II. I have a great reference source from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in my classroom. We will draw (literally) from Egyptian images for inspiration.

Everyone knows that ancient Egypt is cool and that the more you know about it the more fascinating it becomes! I will provide the historic context for making Egyptian inspired works of art. My students will know about the Rosetta Stone and the pyramids of Giza from this project. This study builds on social studies curriculum in the class room and gives the students a hands on project to key into the information presented. Authentic learning will occur and we will have fun!

Your support will help my students to make meaningful art while looking at a culture that engages their imaginations. I firmly believe that teaching from a place of engagement makes for inspired learning. Egyptian culture certainly has a place in our popular imaginations. Help me to impart facts through studying artifacts so that my students have a scholarly understanding of Egypt!
