I teach art in a public elementary school in New York. Thank you for considering our project based on the following: The most significant archaeological excavation of the 20th century was a tomb discovered in 1974 in China that contained thousands of life size terracotta warriors and horses from 246 BC. My three third grade art classes will reference this art for a sculpture project. I did this project, thanks to DonorsChoose.org, last year and it was a huge success. I would love to be able to give the experience to this year's third graders. This project ties in wonderfully with the third grade social studies curriculum. This will be the first opportunity for the students to make a figurative standing sculpture. We will cover the art concepts of balance and design in three dimensions. We will explore color mixing. We will learn about ancient Chinese culture. The British Museum published a great educational packet about these works of art last year during their special exhibition "China's Terracotta Army". We will make good use of this resource. Model magic is a wonderful material for this project but is too expensive for us to purchase within the art budget. It is lightweight and malleable, it paints well, and the children enjoy using it. We are requesting a supply of Model Magic and acrylic paints. Thank you very much. This fabulous project cannot be completed without your gracious support.
