The Internet contains hundreds of interactive activities that help students understand the real world applications of Math and specifically Algebra.

Abstract mathematical concepts are first introduced to students in Algebra 1. This makes Algebra 1 a pivot course – hook the Student now and keep them forever. Most students who say "I do not understand Math" are really saying "I do not understand how it applies to the real world". Every Math student wants to understand this connection. If students can interact with math concepts just as they do with Science concepts, educators can reach the "Hands-on" student. It has been researched that over 80% of what is retained comes from practical experience. As a math educator, integration of practical application with interactive learning can help tip the pivot to all students saying "I get math, it makes sense."

Given that a student understands more of what is taught when it applies to practical use with interactive activities, a classroom LCD Projector is a valuable tool. The Internet contains 100's of Algebra based interactive activities, classroom labs and problem examples/solutions that can be displayed to the entire class using an LCD Projector. The Internet also contains short Video Clips from businesses showing how they use Algebra for their products. This shows the student that the abstract concept being taught does in fact have a practical application. An example of this is a short video from an Aquarium designer that must use Linear Equations to design the thickness of the Aquarium walls. It ends with an interactive LAB where the students design their own tank. All students know about fish tanks and this activity applies the abstract concept of Linear Equations (i.e. the pressure equation) to what they already know.

Your help in this project will ensure that we can attract all students to math. Math is the gateway to all Sciences. If we can reach the new math student through interactive Web based Algebra activities, then we have another possible scientist, researcher, technologist or engineer. Your support with this project will make a positive affect both in the present and in the future.
