Project Learning From A Computer

My students need an LCD computer image projector for 120 students to experience various resources such as the internet, microsoft word, excel, powerpoint, and CD-ROMS.

I teach in a low-income, poverty stricken neighborhood, where brilliant students are waiting to break the circle of poverty. I instruct science, writing, and social sciences to 120 elementary students that struggle with low funding from the public school system. With your help my students can feel like a part of society where rich and poor school systems can co-exist and compete equally for a great high school experience.

My students struggle to learn equally. Our school doesn't receive as much funding as surrounding schools because we don't have outstanding scores on the State Standardized Test. Allowing students to participate in technology driven lessons will provide more interaction as well as produce life long learners.

An LCD Projector will allow me to bring more technology into the classroom. My students can learn how to use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, use a flashdrive and surf the web to locate accurate information to complete a review of literature for their science fair projects. I would love to have cooperative discussions where I model "note taking" on the projector and have students participate by typing in notes on the computer that will project on a screen for all students to view. When I find an interactive science website, I would be able to show my students how experiments work, the process of cell division, how rock layers form, what invasive species look like, different types of natural disasters etc. Also, students will be able to view and interact with documents and various sections of the U.S. Constitution by locating websites and using the CD-ROM. I can keep going on and on because the LCD monitor can be used everyday in my class. The possibilities and benefits are endless.

Each child deserves a chance, and some children deserve more of a chance. Please consider providing these poverty stricken students an opportunity to be fluent with the latest computer technology. They are OUR FUTURE.
