I teach a class of 22 second graders. Our school is a primary school (Pre-K through second grade). We have approximately 750 students. More than half of our school population receives free or reduced lunch.
Our class has only a few biographies. My students are interested in many famous people. I want them to be able to read about people and realize that they too CAN reach their dreams. Our class does individual research projects each year. Currently we must use encyclopedias or the library. Many times the reading level of the books or materials is much too difficult for my second graders. This severely affects the outcome of their projects.
I need bibliographies of men and women throughout history written on a second grade level. These biographies will be used as research material in Social Studies. Certain books will also be used for Black History month. The wide variety of these books will spark the interest of my second graders.
