I teach third grade at an Arts Magnet school. Families from all over the city choose to send their children to us. Over the years, funding has been withdrawn by the district to the point where we don't get any more funding than a regular elementary school. Our class sizes tend to be a bit higher because we have elected to continue added classes in dance, music and visual arts.

Every year, my third graders come to class more computer sophisticated and savvy. Last year I was able to take part in a pilot project where I was given a class-load of laptops for the kids to use. The machines became integral to classroom routine. As they became more proficient, it was evident that they were ready to take it to the next level-adding video. Problem is, we don't have a digital video camera at the school.

This year, to extend their computer learning and enrich language arts, I want to create a weekly video magazine that profiles successes around the school. All too often students' and teachers' successes and triumphs aren't appreciated outside the classroom door. In teams, my students would create a weekly presentation to be shared on the internal TV network. The camera would also be used by students to augment personal presentations in class.

You will make it possible for my 3rd graders to extend their learning through another media.
