Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Kindergarten wants to plant a garden and watch it grow for years to come. Not only is my school Title I, but 50% of my students are ESL (English as a Second Language). Reading about a subject is not enough, I must provide pictures or real life objects that will help them remember the lesson.

About 75% of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Sometimes they do not have enough to eat at home. Teaching them to grow a garden would give them confidence and knowledge that they could carry over into their home lives. Hopefully they will carry over the knowledge into their adult lives, also.

Our school has a designated area to cultivate our garden, but we do not have any gardening tools. The gardening tools that I am requesting will give the students the chance to have a "Hands on Experience". Learning the names of the tools will increase their vocabulary. What fun they will have learning.

Your generosity would make a difference in my students' lives by giving them the chance to learn with their own hands how to grow food to eat. Our school garden will be maintained by my new students for years to come. The gardening tools will be used by many, many children.
