I teach a very diverse third grade class of 30 children with inclusion of 6 special needs children. Two children are emotionally disturbed, one child is autistic and three have minor learning disabilities. This is an inner city school where children come from various background experiences and home lives.

Almost every second of every day you need to read something. Reading is an obstacle for some and reading fluently is no piece of cake for a lot of students. Students in my classroom come from various experiences and read at various levels. Most are reading but do not read fluently like children need to learn so that comprehension takes place.

Having the voice recorders will provide the children with many experiences to read out loud to themselves while recording and then to hear what they have read. They can listen, praise, and critique themselves on how they are reading. Students will then know what they are good at and what they need to improve on and can hear how others are hearing them. The teacher, classmates, and even parents can then listen and help guide instruction and future learning experiences for the students to excel higher in reading. These voice recorders will provide great information for the teacher to use to help individualize and guide reading instruction.

Your donation of voice recorders will provide so many new experiences for every child in my classroom. You will make is possible for them to listen to themselves and hear themselves read. This guided instruction will provide such an experience that nothing could replace it.
