My students need a field study to Bookgreen Gardens to participate in a guided tours and labs about biotic and abiotic organisms in an ecosystem. This is directly related to Standard 7-4: The student will demonstrate an understanding of how organisms interact with and respond to the biotic and abiotic components of their environment. (Earth Science, Life Science). Requested are student tickets and the bus rental.

I presently teach seventh grade science at a lower income school where the majority of our students are on free lunch. Our school is comprised of approximately 60% black and 40% white students.

My school has been hit hard with state budget cuts and there is no money available for students to participate in field studies. It is impossible to teach everything sitting in a classroom staring at the four walls.

This field study will give my students the opportunity to learn by doing. They live in such a fast paced society that they need to be actively involved in their learning. It was once written that worksheets don't grow dendrites! If my students have the opportunity to get in and get involved they will retain the knowledge they need to help them be stewards of our environment.

Your help will ensure that my students will have a working knowledge of the environment. You will help them see that everything no matter how small or large has a place in our ecosystem. They will be able to understand how each organism is dependent on the other. You will make it possible to reach their minds beyond the classroom...beyond the books. You will help to ensure they remember this field study for a life time.
