I teach third grade in a rural school district in South Mississippi. We are a K-8 school with approximately 400 students. The majority of our students eat free and reduced meals. Our district has a small budget, so the teachers at our school spend a tremendous amount of their own money to make sure their students receive the education they deserve.

Although some of my students come from disadvantaged families, my students are extraordinary; they are like little sponges! These children have the potential to rise up and accomplish great things in their lives. I want to afford every opportunity to teach them over and beyond my state frameworks. Writing is an area in which our students have been weak. From what I have seen in the short time that I have been with my students this school year, some of them have a quite a way with getting their thoughts on paper.

It is my job as a teacher to educate my students about the steps of writing and how to formulate essays and stories. I have selected a group of writing resources that can help me accomplish that goal. My students need writing notebooks, word journals, and several independent writing centers to use during their learning.

With your contribution, I will hopefully encourage my students to develop a desire for writing. Who knows? One of these children might become a future author or poet!
