My students need a batting tee, bases, softballs, softball bats, gloves, and a bucket for the balls in order to learn and play the great American past-time: softball.

Teaching at a charter school presents great opportunities. However, it also presents great challenges, such as figuring out how to give my students all of the opportunities they deserve.

One such opportunity is sports. Some of my students have requested starting a softball team. Having played softball growing up and on a team in high school, I agree that this would be amazing for the young women at my school. While a basketball team was formed this past year, offering only one sport does not reach everyone. So unfortunately, while I'd love to start a team today, we do not have the supplies to play.

With softballs, bats, gloves, and balls, we will be able to play the great game of softball. Teaching the girls a team sport will increase their knowledge, team skills, and enhance their self esteem. It's a winning situation all around.
