My third grade classroom is filled with a diverse group of students who are empowered by reading. The community is filled with high needs students who do not necessarily have books at home to read.

I have recently received some books through DonorsChoose, and have seen a dramatic impact within my classroom. Students are learning how to read and summarize books at their own level. Although we have received books, we still don’t have enough books at all my student's reading levels. This makes it quite difficult to get all students engaged in reading.

So hopefully you can help! We are looking to add a set of Level O and P books to our classroom library. These levels are where students need to be by the end of the year so they can meet standards. Providing a variety of books will allow students to have a choice when reading. With choice comes a willingness to participate in writing summaries, discuss books they have read, and be on track so they can meet the end of the year reading standards.

Receiving these packages of books will provide many opportunities for students to enjoy books, both in the classroom and at home. Providing access to these books will also help students meet standards in both reading and writing!
