Life in a rural area can be grand, but it also has its drawbacks. Rural schools often do not receive the funding that is essential to ensure that each classroom has all the supplies that are needed.

This was my first year teaching. I taught fourth grade. I will be looping to fifth grade with my students. At the beginning of this year, a veteran teacher passed on to me five, old, tattered dictionaries.

My students love to write but find it difficult to edit and revise. Finding the meaning of unfamiliar words is almost impossible. Students lose valuable time having to wait and share the outdated dictionaries. Many times the pages they need are missing, and their searches end in frustration and failure.

I would like to see my students excel in writing. In order to do this, students must have the resources that will help them with spelling, word meaning, and word choice. I am asking for a classroom set of dictionary/thesauruses. Your help will ensure that my students have access to the basic tools that all writers need in order to be successful!
