Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Students in my 11th grade Chemistry classes are college prepared with high standard expectations and are in the process of gaining the necessary skills to be career ready.

As a new teacher, I lack the supplies necessary to provide mentally stimulating experiments designed to maintain the interest of students. Practice problems and a multiple choice final exam are rather mind-numbing to the students and are insufficient methods of assessing laboratory skills.

With two centrifuges, students will be able to perform an intriguing final experiment that will promote critical thinking and practical laboratory skills. I designed the experiment so that each student will analyze known chemicals through various tests and use the results to determine three chemicals from an unknown sample. The skills they will learn from this experiment can be used in many corporate and academic laboratories.

Peaking the interest of young students paves the way for future exploration in scientific careers. Your help will make it possible to inspire the youth of today to become the scientists of tomorrow.
