Our school is experiencing a rapid growth of bilingual students (Spanish speaking). I teach Spanish to Spanish speakers, many of whom only have basic literacy skills in Spanish, and already speak English. These are high school kids who can improve their bilingual skills and take those skills to the job force when they graduate. My goal is to improve their reading and writing in Spanish so they can be truly bilingual and move into jobs like translation, interpreting, law enforcement, medical, and other high-need service industries, especially in our immediate area of NC.
Spanish speaking kids learn to read and write in Spanish, providing community with skilled community interpreters and translators! Lots of kids in NC speak Spanish, but since they came here very young, don't read or write it. My goal is to help them become totally bilingual and give back to the community.
Spanish for Spanish Speakers, or Heritage Spanish, is designed to help already bilingual students become literate in two languages. In our class we will read and write A LOT with the help of your donation of Spanish/Spanish dictionaries.
Kids will become an asset to their community by being totally fluent in reading and writing Spanish, their native spoken language. Students can contribute to a quickly-growing Spanish speaking community by providing educated, academically sound and culturally sensitive bilingual individuals.
