My students need eight ink cartridges compatible with our printer, five packs of card stock printer paper, and two boxes of comb binding spines for our classroom projects.
Our classroom is a small, self contained classroom of learners with multiple special needs. The students in our class come from two states and are bussed to the classroom because local programs cannot meet their unique needs. Some of the students are wheelchair users, some are hearing impaired and all have some kind of communication disorder. Out class relies on printed materials that use picture communication symbols for learning and communicating.
Last school year the classroom teacher purchased a high quality color printer for the classroom out of her own pocket, this school year she was informed that the school would no longer provide ink for printers that were not purchased by the school. This leaves the class with only access to a shared printer which is not always available and an older printer with poor quality, neither of which is ideal. In addition, perhaps due to the economy, heavy duty paper and other printing supplies are no longer available.
Thus we need a donations of printer cartridges that are compatible to the teacher purchased printer, heavy duty paper and plastic comb binders.
With the ink, heavy duty paper and comb binders we will make communication books that allow students who do not speak to point to picture symbols to communicate, create student made books to teach language and literacy in a manner that is highly salient to learners, and create worksheets and file folder activities that teach skills from sorting to sight words. We can use these materials to make shopping lists for community based education, make checklists of exercises for adapted physical education and a yearbook spotlighting of all of our activities. The list of possibilities is endless if you have the right basic supplies.
I cannot think of anything more essential to any classroom, especially an intensive special needs classroom than the ability to print, in color, handouts, communication boards and worksheets and student made work. Your donation will make this possible.
