Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a fourth grade teacher, I teach all subjects to my students. I teach at a charter school that focuses on teaching science and art. I work in a low-income community.

The majority of my students do not have the money to purchase books to own, so I try to provide as many books as possible in my classroom. My kids love Judy Blume books! I want to make sure that I have books available for them that will capture their interest. They are also fascinated with Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory since the majority of them watched the movie.

I would like to have a copy of Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing as well as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for each of my students. I would love for us to read these books as a class. In the past I have read these books as a read aloud to my students and they have all begged me to borrow the book when we were finished reading it. I hope that if we read it as a class, they will be inspired to take their book home and read.

I want my students to want to enjoy reading. Making books accessible to them is very important in making this a reality. Thank you for you help!
