Help Give Our Room a View of the World

My students need multicultural books found in two separate book collections and a multicultural read along library (with books and CDs).

I teach 21 inner-city second graders in Washington, D.C. My students are bright, energetic, and ready learn. While my students live in the nation's capital, they rarely see much outside their small neighborhoods. As a result, they do not have an opportunity to experience the diversity that their world has to offer. That is why I am asking for your help. One of the best ways to bring other cultures into the classroom is through books. I am asking for your help purchasing three multicultural classroom libraries to add to our classroom library. These libraries have books that will introduce my students to many of the cultures represented in our country as well as give them an opportunity to see their culture in print. Two of the libraries are books that can be used as read alouds or for individual or partner reading. The third library is a listening library, which contains books and CDs. This will help my students who are not reading on grade level to gain access to the books as well. My second graders live in the nation's capital but they have little experience with the world outside of their neighborhood. The purchase of these multicultural classroom libraries will provide them with a glimpse of the wide world around them. Thank you for your time and consideration.
