I teach seniors in a rural South Carolina school, in which almost half of my student population is on free or reduced lunch. We are in need of basic calculators.

I teach all levels of Economics. Throughout the seven years I have been teaching, my students love the units I cover on supply/demand and personal finance. Who doesn't want to learn how to make money and why things are priced the way they are? In particular, they are amazed when we learn about calculating interest rates for not only savings but also credit cards and loans. They also learn how to budget and are amazed at what compound interest can do to even just saving $10 a month for 30 years. In a time when the economy is slowing down and prices of goods continue to rise, it is pertinent that my students learn to budget and save. Unfortunately, it has been very difficult getting students and parents to supply basic calculators which are of tremendous help when we are working on activities such as calculating interest rates, total payments and monthly payments on loans.

A class set of calculators will definitely be beneficial in my classes. Students calculating and actually seeing true numbers themselves has more of an effect than just giving students the numbers.

I want my students to graduate from high school learning how to budget and save which will affect them throughout their lifetime. Your help will ensure that my students learn these important concepts that many students in the past have not learned. Together, we can help young men and women learn the importance of budget and saving and not getting into so much debt that they end up having to file for bankruptcy later down the road.
