Bringing the Colts into the 21st Century

My students need a LCD projector for two reasons. First, to allow me to present important content information to my students in a visual manner that reaches them through their spatial learning styles. Second, to allow them to present their PowerPoint projects that they complete throughout the school year.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Imagine entering high school in the 21st Century and not having the technology necessary in the classroom to provide the necessary skills needed to be competitive in the work force. That is the situation for the students in my classroom. These students, who are sophomores and juniors, are experiencing World History and US History without technology in the classroom. For an inner city school, this puts the students at a great disadvantage when they enter the "real world".

This lack of exposure to technology is a disadvantage for my students as many of them do not have computers or technology at their homes. In fact, 56% of the students qualify for free lunch under the federal guidelines, illustrating the low socioeconomic status they live within. In addition, my school also has a high percentage of ELL students, over half who are refugees to the United States from war torn countries like Sudan, Bosnia, and Sierra Leone.

With a LCD projector in the classroom, I would be able to bring history alive. Touching on the spatial learning styles of the students I would be able to show them speeches, video clips, political cartoons, interactive maps, PowerPoint presentations, and more to support the information covered in the textbook. In addition, the students would be able to use their research skills to create their own PowerPoint presentations that they would present to the class (which would also touch on their public speaking abilities).

You will make it possible to bring my students into the 21st Century. Because of your generous donation, they will be exposed to the technology necessary to be successful in a competitive work force.
