My students need 8 packs of different colored construction paper, a ream of white drawing paper, one class pack of crayons, one class pack of colored markers, 20 packs of pencils, one box of manila folders and a cart to house all this material.
I teach a third grade class of 25 students in a small city in south Louisiana. I have taught for 24 years and I LOVE my job. My students come from a low socio-economic area and can barely afford to buy school supplies. This makes my job quite challenging.
My students have worked very hard on the writing process this year. They used Thinking Maps and Four Squares, which are graphic organizers, to help make this process much easier for them. Some of the booklets they've made from their writings are about holidays, famous people they've learned about in Social Studies, animals and habitats from science, book summaries and storyboards, just to name a few. I would love to continue this process further by having them write even more next year.
The motivational factor in this writing process is their being able to make a book cover of their own design. They now enjoy the writing process and look forward to it daily. This I feel is quite an achievement!
I am in desperate need of funds to continue the work I have already started. School funds and my own personal contributions have dried up. Through your generosity, I would like to have the following materials: markers, crayons, construction paper, pencils, manila folders, white drawing paper and a storage cart for all of the material. With your help, my next year's students will indeed be motivated and excited about writing!
