Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Help me bring the world to my students. I teach first grade English Language Development. This is the first year of a new state-mandated program to teach English to students. I have been given the use of a SmartBoard and now I need a computer to bring it to life. This is a high need community with 90 percent of students on free and reduced lunch. These students are unable to travel and have experiences outside of their own world. It is my goal to bring the world to them and provide them with hands-on learning experiences on a daily basis.

The SmartBoard requires its own computer in order to work. We have two computers in the classroom which are used every day as a teacher source (attendance, correspondence, etc.) and for students to practice reading, writing and exploring. Taking away one of these computers to use for the SmartBoard will effect the learning environment in a negative way.

This technology will allow my students to manipulate their materials and access the Internet to its fullest potential. We will be able to download all of the curriculum materials and manipulate them using the SmartBoard. We will also be able to use the computer to access the internet and bring real-life experiences to the classroom.

Your help with this project will make it possible for my students to have experiences they otherwise would never dream of without disrupting the classroom environment. With your help, we can make a difference in these students lives and provide a technology rich learning environment.
