English is one of the least favorite subjects in school. However, English teaches us how to communicate effectively and intelligently with each other. Luckily, I get to try and inspire students who attend a largely free and reduced lunch school (90%). It is my duty to tell my 10th graders how important education and being able to clearly express yourself really is. Because of a lack of support from their family, students find encouragement from us, their teachers.

A poor community cannot donate as much as a school may need. Therefore, we have to go out of our town in order to find supplies our area cannot provide. My students are interested in technology and things that are not typical English class supplies. Using webcams is certainly a new way for students to get interested in English.

I plan to help students get comfortable with speaking to others, expressing their thoughts, and using technology by using WebCams as a tool for online blogging and conferencing. Students will be able to record TV shows, radio shows, blogs, podcasts, and information in an innovative way. Many students are afraid to write. If they get to perform their writing, many times it is more exciting and hopefully less scary. My goal is to help my students become more comfortable in an increasingly difficult world and improve their abilities to express themselves.
