Socratic Discussions And Paperless Assignments

My students need 10 cassette recorders and 60 micro cassettes to create their paperless assignments in which they record their answers to discussion questions for me to listen to, assess, and respond to by recording my observations and suggestions for them to listen to the next day.

Second grade average to high-ability students in rural/suburban Indiana self-contained classroom.

These students want to hold Socratic discussions instead of completing the same-old worksheets - but how does a busy teacher of 30 students get around to them all? We tape record their discussions in a small group format. Problem: no funds to purchase necessary tape recording devices and tapes.

If we had ten hand-held tape recorders, the students could research the topic of discussion in the areas of literature, math, science, or social studies, and then record their responses to the prompt given by the teacher in a small group format. Each student will be held accountable for participation when the teacher plays back the discussion and tapes her comments and assessment of their recorded work.

Your donation will enable my students to complete paperless assignments using higher-order thinking skills while working in a highly-accountable, motivating, and cooperative setting. Your help will begin to create more responsible and contributing members of our learning communities and society!
