Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Although extremely bright and ambitious, my students do not have access to accurate, high quality college information, and are thus denied many opportunities.

A college degree is becoming increasingly necessary in today's competitive society. While my high school students are very interested in pursuing college, they lack access to the most up to date information regarding colleges and universities, the application process, standardized tests, etc. By providing this information in our guidance office, we can ensure that all students have access to college books and guides.

Specifically, I would like to order six books with college-specific information so that students can research and learn about the numerous colleges and universities in the United States. Each book I ordered is a little different so that our college library is as comprehensive as possible. I ordered books that discuss the most selective colleges, ones geared towards middle and low performing students, as well as books that discuss the best value colleges, an extremely important consideration for our students.

Low-income and first-generation students often do not have access to the same information and resources as their peers. By building our guidance office's college library, the school can play a major role in providing students with accurate and up-to-date information about colleges, therefore increasing the opportunities for our hard-working, determined and ambitious students.
