Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a 3rd grade teacher who teaches all subjects in a community where the teachers not only teach the ABC's, we also teach children about life. We teach them to grow as people and want to give them to proper skills to not only become productive members of society but to SOAR, to reach their dreams. This is a difficult task,yet we are taking on the difficult path ahead of us.

So many of our kids today do not know how to write a simple paragraph or sentence. As as teacher when we talk about writing the first question asked is "how many sentences until we are done?" I want them to write until the thought is complete; however, many of our kids do not have the strong vocabulary to break out of the basic sentence structure. I want to get the pencil into their hands and provide an area that they can store all of their writing, since writing is such a personal process. I want them to write and get excited as they do when they have read a great book. I want to bring that out of my students, a way for them to express themselves completely on paper. Building their vocabulary will allow our students to see their writing come to life with the stroke of a pencil.

The resources needed will not only help build vocabulary, but writing can become something special. These are words and thoughts that they will be creating and I take that very seriously. Some resources include vocabulary building activities, as well as, places to store them away from their desks, and free of clutter. There is also a chart that the kids can use to keep up with their writing process, as they continue to expand their vocabulary. Each above item is more personal and the child will have a few more opportunities to break out of the shell of the basic sentence!!
