HELP! I'm in need of musical control! I am a second grade teacher in a rural school district in the state of Pennsylvania. My second graders are quite social and loquacious. They come into the room every morning from their lockers still carrying on conversations, being noisy, and full of news to share with anyone and everyone. I need some relaxing music to have on before they enter the classroom. Once they come in and hear it. the music would serve as a signal to stop talking, get quiet, and listen. It would also help facilitate the transition into school mode. The background music seems to help them calm down, relax, and concentrate better. It also helps them block out distracting sounds. I know this is effective because I use it at Christmas time using holiday music. In addition to the calming effects, my students would benefit by being introduced to a different genre of music. Since I teach in an economically deprived district, many of my students might otherwise not be exposed to this music in their home environment. Your help will ensure that my class will get musically moved into school mode!
