Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Due to recent changes in the law where every student is required a minimum of 150 minutes of Physical Education, our numbers have increased. We have 3 classes at a time for each period of the day; therefore, by the end of each week, we will see the entire student body of 650 students.

Our school was established over 20 years ago and is in one of the most culturally diverse areas of Orlando.

Our students' demographics vary from a diverse group including, but not limited to, 58.9% Black, 21.8% Hispanic, 12.7% White, 4.3% Asian, and 2.2% multicultural. Our school participates in the Title I program, which provides free or reduced lunch to all students. We were just awarded the honor of being an “A” school this past year. . Our students work very hard in the classrooms as well and deserve an opportunity to release their energy. Our goal in the PE department is to provide an outlet for them that will help assist the teachers to maintain their focus in the classrooms. For some, it is the first time being introduced to cooperative games/sports. That is the very reason why we wanted to initiate this fundraiser, so that we could purchase more equipment to allow our students to be exposed and experience with different types of equipment they've never seen or used before.

My Project

With this equipment, we will be able to play and learn skills such as coordination, rational thinking, reading, writing, sports, and many others that we would’t have the opportunity to do. There will be abundance of activities and games we will be able to play indoors and outdoor. The speaker and the music CDs will open up other options for us when we are inside due to weather. It will also allow kids to be more creative with options at home as well. I'm really excited about what this opportunity could bring to our school. With your help, we can achieve all of our goals and give our students a better opportunity.

These donations will provide all of the students a basic foundation of motor and manipulative skills, an understanding of the importance of physical fitness and the opportunity to develop effective personal and social skills.

Students will be provided with the skills necessary to make decisions about physical activity for their own health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and social interaction.
