Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My 3rd grade elementary students are in need of quality reading materials. We are located in a large metropolitan area with a very cosmopolitan culture. We are not poor, but we are certainly not well off. We are the middle class that has become forgotten. My children are bright and ambitious and desire the chance to learn new things. Reading is the key to education. Reading is the springboard to all other academics. It build knowledge and vocabulary.

Because our school is not poor or wealthy, we fall in between the cracks when it comes to funding. Our school has a small population of less than 400 students, with a budget that is even smaller. This is why we are asking for a donation of books.

We are requesting classroom sets (25) of 3 titles of books that we can enjoy reading and learning together. Reading helps to develop minds to become productive citizens in society. We will start with Charlotte's Web, as that story builds on friendship. We will also read My Life in Dog Years. This story is about a man's life and relationship with his dogs which prove to be amazingly loyal. The setting is in rural Minnesota, a geographical area completely different from where we live. We one lives in a climate that doesn't experience all the seasons, books are a good venue for providing that experience. We would also like to read "Flat Stanley" This is a story of a boy who is flat and gets to see the world by traveling through the mail. We would like to make our own Flat Stanley's and mail them to friends and family and keep track of were he travels to on a classroom map.

Your help will be forever valuable to my students. Sometimes we want to make a contribution that will be significant to society in a large way. I am asking you to measure your contribution in inches and teaspoons. Providing books for 8 year old children seems small to some, but more often than not, it is the small things that grow to be the most significant. Books help people to travel and grow into people who can make a contribution to society, no matter how large or small. Thank you for your generosity.
