Hands on Math Rocks! We use the Everyday Math program in my sixth grade classroom. The program is very hands on, however some students struggle with the idea of solving equations.

I am always looking for ways to allow my students to manipulate items to represent the equations that they are trying to solve. It is very difficult to come up with items to represent equations and have enough on hand so every student has the same opportunity to succeed.

Students retention rate is greatly increased by using the Concrete-Representational-Abtract model. This is where Hands On Equations enters the picture. This program allows students to manipulate the equation. The concepts of: working on both sides of the equation, what do you have left, and the variable is equal to what, come to life in a students hands. This allows the learning to be concrete, which then moves to representational and finally abstract. The key is the concrete learning. Two Classroom sets of Hands On Equations would provide the opportunity for all of my students to succeed in Algebra.

All of my students deserve a chance to excel in Algebra. Your donations can help make this happen. Hands On Equations can provide the solid foundation that they need. Please take this opportunity to help these students.
