This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Each morning my students shake my hand and walk to the front wall and touch a poster that says "focus, work hard, and learn something new today." By the end of the year I hope that my students will take pride in learning, enjoy working with one another, and are prepared for 21st century learning.

My third graders attend a Title 1 school that is located in Fullerton, California.

Our school is made up grades K-6. Within the school, 97.6% percent are Hispanic, 0.2% are Black, and 1.2% are White. Sixty-five percent of students are English Language Learners and most of my students qualify for free and reduced price lunch. Most students here come from low socioeconomic families who need support with uniforms, school supplies, and food. The chance for these students to use and become familiar with technology comes mainly through the classroom setting. Despite all of this, my students come to school every day ready to learn and have fun. They are hardworking and positive kids. They are always excited and engaged to learn, especially when it comes to using technology. They would love the opportunity to collaborate and work with one another to code, which will help prepare them for 21st Century learning.

My Project

The Dash and Dot Robots will be used to bring an engaging and fun way to teach students about computer science, coding, and computer programming. A major part of their computer science learning will be through using the robots. In addition the robots will allow students to build and strengthen their coding, programming, problem solving, critical thinking, mathematics, and collaboration skills. The students will be given the opportunity to work independently and in small groups; they will used their iPads to code the robot's movements. What is so rewarding about the robots and the coding program, is that the students will be able to see their work play out in front of their very own eyes as well as in front of their peers. The various accessories that come with the Dash and Dot Robot Wonder Pack will allow for differentiated activities. The accessories also strengthen and challenge the learning by providing several different engaging activities and layers of learning.

Having the Dash and Dot Robots from Wonder Workshop and accessories in our classroom will help my students become stronger 21st Century learners.

They will become excited about learning and the use of technology. Through your donations my class will become excited about science, coding, and mathematics. You will help them strengthen their technology skills. The robots are a great beginning to a wonderful year of collaboration, technology, critical thinking, coding, and 21st Century learning.
