My Students

A major job of the school library, particularly in middle school, is to provide students with unlimited information and show them how to retrieve the information. The biggest challenge to research is finding a way for students to find the information they need or desire while being safe online.

Throughout one school year, I will teach all of the 5th and 6th graders in my building, and that is somewhere around 300-400 students.

My students desire to learn knew information, and they enjoy finding information using the computers. I am so lucky because, at my school, there are only 2 official computer labs, but I have my own lab within the Media Center.

My Project

I cover topics like reference books in my Library classes, which will definitely be easier and more effective with this technology. I also teach research skills, which is where this program will get the most use. My students need access to Britannica School in order to conduct safe and effective research. This program offers primary sources, audio, photos, and a plethora of informational text that my students could use to conduct their research. This also provides a safe way for them to conduct their research.

If I would have access to this technology in my Library Media Center, it would give me the opportunity to provide my students with tons of information they might not otherwise have access to.

I always try and stress to my students that there is a big world out there, full of information and experiences, and this would be just one way I could show them.
