Our school is a Title I, urban school in California. Almost half of our population comes from homes in which English is not the first language. Many of our students receive free or reduced lunch. Often these students lack background knowledge of concepts they encounter in reading and on tests. My students include English learners and struggling readers, grades 1-5.

Help these students build background knowledge! These are kids just waiting to become avid readers and students, but many of them are frustrated, both by reading difficulties, and by lack of understanding of some of the topics they encounter.

We need to build our library of English learner-friendly books, as well as literature to entice reluctant readers. Groups of students will use these book sets for years to come!

Help our students become Book Lovers! They just need to get their hands on the right topic!
