Help! My Books Have Fallen and I Can't Get them Up!

My students need colorful, sturdy book boxes and a child size (easy clean) couch, pillows and chair.

My Students

"A book is a dream that you hold in your hand (Neil Gaiman)." My students would want to devour books if I could have them organized in colorful, sturdy boxes instead of ripped cardboard magazine holders that keep falling on the floor.

My second grade students live in a very rural area with limited family funds for buying books.

It's a warm, friendly little neighborhood where parents really appreciate help educating their children. Giving my students the gift of a colorful reading corner with book boxes, a child sized couch and chair would provide an enticing setting for students to enjoy reading their favorite story.

My Project

My biggest goal this year is to encourage each student to choose 5 books to read each week and place them in their own colorful book box. Also, I would like to organize books into sturdy boxes with category labels so students can find a favorite book easily. By reading multiple kinds of fiction and non-fiction books in an organized, colorful library, students will increase their sophistication with reading and writing.

By providing an enriching environment, you will help my students become voracious readers.

Allowing children to choose their own books (from colorful boxes) will encourage a love for reading (Atwell, 2007). My students will become independent learners when they are provided a beautiful, comfortable space to enjoy reading. "Every child deserves a champion; an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists they become the best they can possibly be.
